It’s impossible to understand Mexico without understanding the chirping of the crickets. Chirping is a synonym of politics and not solely in the government, there are crickets in the corporations, schools, church, army, etc. Everywhere there is power to be contested or a decision to be made, there are crickets singing, hoping their chirping changes the course of the events favoring them. Without being a psychologist or a sociologist, I will attempt to explain what chirping means and how it affects the country.

Despite the fact that chirping is such an important part of the every day life of Mexicans, very little has been written about it and there are no scientific studies that can help us understand the psychological and cultural aspects behind this particular Cosmo vision. That’s why I decided to ask many journalist friends, supposed experts in political matters, to define to me the term “grilla”, which literally translates into English as “chirping”.
