The chirping of the crickets
The bizarre Mexican political system
By Rami Schwartz | La Palabra.com | 2005-03-28
It’s impossible to understand Mexico without understanding the chirping of the crickets. Chirping is a synonym of politics and not solely in the government, there are crickets in the corporations, schools, church, army, etc. Everywhere there is power to be contested or a decision to be made, there are crickets singing, hoping their chirping changes the course of the events favoring them. Therefore, Mexican politics can be best defined as the chirping of the crickets.I can imagine the difficulty that the pragmatic American mentality must have understanding chirping or even worse, trying to figure out how an entire country based on chirping can function. Without being a psychologist or a sociologist, I will attempt to explain what chirping means and how it affects the country.Despite the fact that chirping is such an important part of the every day life of Mexicans….

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah!
But what’s confusing you
Is just the nature of my game ….So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politics
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste, um yeah!
